CLASS 7 ROUGH TERRAIN FORK LIFTS (TELEHANDLER) TRAINING

Some specific areas of focus in this course are:

  • Classroom Training involves classroom discussions on subjects like regulations, company policies and procedures, operator’s manuals, telehandlers features and safety equipment, and stability.

  • Hands on Training involves the trainee (under the direct supervision of a trainer) using their physical ability to practice the safe operation of telehandlers. This includes the pre-operation inspection, workplace inspection, function test, start-up, and picking and placing of loads.

  • The written exam score is simply the final score of the exam taken in the classroom.

  • The hands-on evaluation score is calculated using a hands-on evaluation check sheet and is based on the operator's demonstration of proficiency in key areas of safety, pre-operation and actual operation of the telehandler in a workplace environment.

Trainee’s that complete this course will receive a certificate of training and an operator’s card, however this does not complete the training process. OSHA regulation 1910.178 (I)(6) states that:

"The employer shall certify that each operator has been trained and evaluated as required by this paragraph (I). The certification shall include the name of the operator, the date of the training, the date of the evaluation and the identity of the person(s) performing the training or evaluation."

To satisfy this requirement, an authorized officer of the operator's employer must also endorse the certificate of training. The employer should retain a copy of the certificate(s) and training logs for their own records.

NOTE: Even though all Class 7 powered industrial trucks (which includes vertical mast fork lifts, truck mounted fork lifts and telehandlers) have similar working principles, this training program will focus only on telehandlers.
